Hi everyone, Heidi here, today I would like to show you a set of fun masculine cards with a stencilled and distress glazed background. I will show you exactly how you can create these cards for yourself and it’s really easy.

Step 1:
My first step is to die cut four card panels two sizes smaller then my card base (in the picture you see three of them). For this I used watercolour paper. On each panel I stamped one sentiment stamp repeatedly using first and second generation stamping and also skipping some area’s. My sentiment reads Happy Birthday over and over again, but you can use any background stamp that you like. I used the following colours of Archival Ink: “Coffee”, “Sepia”, Leaf Green” and “Cobalt” (it’s important that you choose ink that is waterproof).
Step 2:
For this step I’m going to use two different The Crafter’s Workshop stencils: “Harlequin” (TCW5007) and “Dash Triangle” (TCW830). I place the stencil over the watercolour panel and then I applied Ranger “Distress Glaze” over the stencil using a foam applicator tool. You don’t need much of this medium, it’s clear (so you don’t see it when you take of the stencil) and it works like a water resistant sealer. I didn’t apply it everywhere, just on a couple of places, to create a more distressed effect.
I tried a couple of different ways to colour the paper but I found that spraying with a coloured medium works best. For each panel I used a different colour, mine are by Lindy’s Stamp Gang: “Milk Chocolate Brown”, “Yellow Rose of Texas”, “Bachelor Button Blue” and “Sea Mint Green”. After spraying dry the panel with you heat tool and while drying dab of the beads that will form on the resist area’s, it will dry nicer that way. Where I applied the distress glaze the stencil design now shows. I love the way this looks!
Step 3:
You can leave it at this or take the design one step further: I placed the stencil I used back on the panel and then went over the sprayed design using the colour of ink that I used for stamping the background text, for this I used a foam applicator tool. It doesn’t have to be neat and I focus on area’s that don’t have the distress glaze as well as some where it is, shifting the stencil slightly. This creates a little some extra for the eye to look at!
Step 4:
These are all the background panels that I created using the technique as described above!
Step 5:
Now I’m going to work on the rest of my card design: for this I stamped several of the images and the sentiments from the Stampin’ Up stamp set called “Epic Celebrations” onto Copic friendly paper using Memento “Tuxedo Black” ink. Then I coloured the images using the following Copic colours: YR02, YR18, E11, E42, E35, E44, Y11, Y17, Y08, G40, YG03, YG17, T2, BG000, B21 and B28. When the colouring was done I added back in some highlights using a white Gelly Roll Pen and then I fussy cut all the images leaving a small border.
The sentiments I stamped on white card card using black ink and I die cut around them.
Step 6:
Then I’m ready to put my cards together: I die cut a mat for each background panel slightly larger then this panel. These two panels I adhered together using liquid glue. Next I wrapped some jute cord around the combined panels and adhered on the back using regular tape. Then I adhered this combination to a white linen textured card base using one millimetre thick foam tape and to finish my cards I adhered the sentiments and the coloured images on top also using foam tape.
