I love layering up inks to create fun backgrounds and adding stencils into the mix just creates so many more options and wonderful textures you can have fun with. In today’s video tutorial I’m sharing the new Quattro Motifs stencil, which is perfect for this technique and can be built up and stenciled so many different ways, but you can use any of The Crafter’s Workshop’s stencils and it will work! To start this technique you need to first think about your ink colors. You’re going to need at least one color for your background and if you want more, be sure they will blend together nicely! And then you’re going to need at least one ink to put through your stencil. Again, more will work if you want to do more blending, but you will need a nice contrasting and probably darker color to layer over the top, especially if you’re using dye inks. If you’re using pigment ink, you have a little more wiggle room on layering because the inks are opaque and sit on top of one another.
There are so many ways you can make this technique your own! Just by switching up the ink colors you can completely change the look of the card. Also, by changing which stencils you use you can change the design. It’s a really versatile technique for all card making and paper crafting styles.
Finally, if I’m creating this really intricate background, I don’t about you, but I want it to be the focal point of my project. So I focus all of my energy and time into the background and then I like to just add die cut sentiments to finish my cards with this technique. You can also use the same technique on the small scale to add a little something to the inside of your cards too!!
