Fun with gesso board!

Hello everyone!

It’s Jennifer Gallagher joining you today to share my first post as a Guest Designer for The Crafter’s Workshop. I have been using TCW products for many years, so I was very excited when given the opportunity to share my work using TCW stencils with all of you.

For this post, I wanted to spotlight a Rebekah Meier stencil, TCW803 Distressed Lace. I am a huge fan of Rebekah’s stencils and I use them quite often in my projects. The twelve inch version of this stencil is perfect for this project.

This project centers around an eight by eight inch piece of wood brushed with a layer of TCW White Gesso. I painted the wood canvas with a thin layer of turquoise acrylic paint, not trying to cover the entire canvas, but leaving some white space here and there. Next, using matte medium I adhered some printed tissue in the upper left corner.

Using a mini blending tool, I applied acrylic paint through the stencil, only choosing certain sections to paint. I chose a crimson red because it has a lot of blue in it. This shade of paint will compliment the turquoise background nicely.

Using acrylic paint pens I outlined the flowers with a deep orange. Next I added some more details around the center of each flower with a flesh tone.

To add a special touch, and a beautiful bit of shine, I brushed on TCW Platinum Modeling Paste.

I decided to add a printed tissue face to the bottom right of the canvas. To make the face really stand out, I decided to add a light layer of TCW White Gesso where the face will go. I then adhered the face with matte medium.

The final touches include a thin black outline around the petals of the flowers and a tissue paper sentiment. I hope you have found some inspiration from this project. If you try one yourself, please feel free to tag me on Instagram.

As always, we would love to see what you create with The Crafter’s Workshop Stencils and Mediums, so be sure to tag your creations with the hashtag #tcwstencillove.

Keep creating,

Jennifer Gallagher
