Gilded Christmas Cards

How to create fun Christmas cards using few supplies

Hi everyone, Heidi here, today I would like to show you another set of fun Christmas cards, this time using a gilding technique. Let’s get started!

——————————–

The Crafter’s Workshop provided me with some product to create this project. The opinions I share are solely my own.

Step 1:

Did you already try The Crafter’s Workshop “Tacky-when-Dry Gel Medium“? If not, then you should, it’s lots of fun in a little jar! You should make sure though that you are working on a surface that you can clean afterwards or on a paper layer that you can trough away, because this stuff is sticky when dry! It’s also very easy to use!

First I cut the panels that I want to use in the size that I liked. I selected different colours of card stock to give you some examples to see what combination you like best. Then I choose the stencils that I wanted to work with on today’s fun Christmas card project.

I choose the following three The Crafter’s Workshop stencils: “Flakes“ (TCW 2162), “Holly Background“ (TCW718s) and “Snowflakes“ (TCW720s).

The technique is quite easy: you temporarily adhere the stencil over the panel that you have cut to the size that you want to use. Then you apply The Crafter’s Workshop “Tacky-when-Dry Gel Medium“ (TCW9049) over the stencil using a palette knife, remove the stencil carefully and set the panel aside to dry. Wash your stencil immediately!

Then you wait until the gel medium has gone completely clear (see pictures), then you know that you can proceed to the next step.

Step 2:

On top of the “Tacky-when-Dry Gel Medium“ you can use different products, but today I’m showing you the technique using Nuvo Gilding Flakes. I have the colour “Sunkissed Copper“, but you can use whatever colour you have or even two colours mixed together.

One tip when you use these flakes: don’t sneeze, put on the fan or anything else that circulates the air, this stuff goes everywhere, but it’s a lot of fun and you can’t really have to much sparkle in your life, right?

Use your fingers to ad the flakes to the sticky area’s of the stencilled design, make sure that every area is covered well. Then take a dry stippling brush and rub over the entire area (clockwise and counter clockwise) to remove the flakes from the area’s that are not sticky to reveal the gorgeous design underneath!

When you work on a sheet of printer paper you can put back the left over flakes back in the jar to use next time.

Step 3:

With all the shine going on you don’t really need much else to finish your cards: for the black/copper design I choose an olive green mat and a tag with a stamped sentiment.

For the light greenish/copper design I also choose an olive green mat and a layered sentiment adhered on top of the gilded design.

And for the gray/copper design (the strip of holly background) I choose to use a matching orange card stock and some matching sequins.

All the sentiments on today’s cards are from the Altenew “Holiday Wishes“ stamp set!

Another combination:

To show you another idea I also created the copper design on a green background using an ochre yellow mat and the sentiment stamped on a vellum strip (clear heat embossed) and adhered on top of the project.

Bonus card:

And last but not least I wanted to show you that you can also use for example Ranger “Perfect Pearls“ on top of the The Crafter’s Workshp “Tacky-when-Dry Gel Medium“. You use the small Perfect Pearls brush to ad powder to your gel medium design after it has completely dried (I used the colours “Jubilee Blue“ and “Perfect Pearl“).

Then you brush of the excess powder using the larger Perfect Pearls brush and then you set the powder by swiping the card stock through some misted water from a spray bottle.

This strip I added to a grey mat and I used some blue mirror card stock as my base panel.

And that’s it for today’s fun Christmas card project! I wish you a creative day!
