Hello Everyone! It’s Lindsay from the Crafting While Caffeinated Blog and YouTube Channel here again with you today and I have another video tutorial for you with a fun and new technique, stained glass stenciling!! This technique was inspired the new TCW808 Leaf Collection stencil and when I first eyed this stencil I knew I wanted to find a way to create a stained glass effect with my TCW mediums and stencils. It took a little experimenting, but I finally found the perfect combination to create a colorful and transparent finish. This technique is a lot of fun to do, but you do need one specific product to make it work – TCW Gloss Gel Medium. You can use the Matte Gel Medium, but it will give a more frosted, instead of transparent and glossy finish. If you want the fully transparent and shiny finish, you need to use the Gloss Gel Medium.

As for coloring your medium, you will need to use an ink that is transparent. I used my Distress Inks since I knew they worked well to color mediums from past experience. A chalk, pigment or paint won’t keep that transparent nature as they are opaque inks, so stay clear of those. Also, you HAVE to mix the medium and whatever you use to color it well. When you don’t mix it well you will be left with a a streaky colored medium and anywhere where you don’t have any color will be left completely clear and you won’t be able to see it.

Finally, if you want to have a completely see through element, you will need to stencil on acetate. Because you don’t need to add any heat to this you can use any acetate or transparency! This can be a little tricky to adhere and finish your cards with, but watch the video for a bunch of different ideas on how to put your finished cards together!
