Sparkly Christmas Cards

How to create fun and easy glittery Christmas cards using stencils

Hi everyone, Heidi here, today I would like to show you my first Christmas cards for this year! CHRISTMAS you say! Yes! When you make about 40 Christmas cards each year, with different designs, you have to get started pretty early otherwise they won’t be done when you need them! So, to get you started with some fun idea’s I’m showing you these sparkly cards in traditional Christmas colours!

The Crafter’s Workshop provided me with some product to create this project. The opinions I share are solely my own.

Card 1:

Step 1:

First I die cut a square panel from some white linen textured card stock slightly smaller then the largest panel that I will use on this card. Of course you can cut a square panel by hand as well! I temporarily adhered this panel to my work surface using removable tape and then taped the stencil of my choice over the panel and adhered that to my work surface as well. This way you can create nice crisp stencilled edges. For this particular card I choose a The Crafter’s Workshop stencil called “Holly Background“ (TCW718s).

Next I’m going to apply two colours of Nuvo Glimmer Paste over the stencil in a diagonal way, and to contaminate the pastes as little as possible I’m working with two palette knifes, one for each colour. I choose Glimmer Pastes in the colours “Emerald Green“ and “Raspberry Rhodolite“. I started in the top left hand corner and worked my way across the stencil to the right hand bottom corner, changing up the colours.

Step 2:

When done you can carefully remove the stencil from your project. Wash your stencil immediately, the paste will get stuck easily on your stencil! Then set the panel aside to dry completely!

In the meantime I’m working on the rest of my card design: I die cut a slightly larger square panel from some shiny brown card stock (I found that this colour went best with the overall card design I was going for) and I also die cut the banner shape using one of the dies in the My Favorite Things  “Slanted Sentiment Strips“ die set after stamping the sentiment with Versafine “Onyx Black“ ink using one of the sentiments in the Lili of the Valley “Christmas Headwritten Phrases“ stamp set (but you can of course use any stamp set you like that fits the design you’re going for!). I also free hand cut a mat for the banner from the same shiny brown card stock.

Step 3:

Now that all my elements are ready I can put my card together: I adhered the two banner shapes and the two square shapes together using liquid glue. Then I wrapped some red/white bakers twine around my banner shapes and adhered on the back using regular tape. Then I adhered the banner with the bakers twine to the combined square panels using one millimetre thick foam tape on the front, folding it around the back and adhering there using regular tape. All I have to do now to finish my first card is to adhere my project onto a white linen textured card base, also using one millimetre thick foam tape!

Card 2:

Step 1:

For my second card I went for a different design to give you another idea: I die cut the same square panel from white linen textured card stock and I also free hand cut a strip of four centimetres wide from this card stock (notice that the strip is longer then the square panel is long). For this card I choose to work with the gorgeous The Crafter’s Workshop stencil called “Snowflakes“ (TCW720s).

I adhered the stencil on top of the square panel and applied some Nuvo Glimmer Paste in the colour  “Silver Gem“ over the stencil using a palette knife, then I removed the stencil and set the panel aside to dry. Over the four centimetre wide strip I applied Nuvo Glimmer Paste in the colour “Golden Crystal“ making sure that I picked part of the stencil design that was also on the left hand side of the square panel, so that the design would be the same on both the silver and the gold panel! Then I set this panel aside to dry as well.

Step 2:

For the silver paste panel I then die cut a slightly larger panel from matching grey coloured card stock and for the gold strip I used the same brown card stock that I used on my first card. I adhered the panels onto each mat using liquid glue and then adhered the strip on top of the combined square panels also using liquid glue, making sure that the snowflake design is matching.

Step 3:

When dry you can cut of the excess for the gold strip with your scissors (I usually cut from the backside because that makes it easier to cut in a straight line).

Then I created the sentiment and the banner shape in the same way as I did on the first card, I used some grey/white bakers twine, and then I put my card together.

That’s it for today’s cards: I love the shine of these pastes, the glitter doesn’t rub of, and these TCW stencils are the perfect designs to create this kind of cards!

We would love to see what you create with The Crafters Workshop Stencils and Mediums.
