Art Journal – Forest Butterflies

Hi Guys, I am Jeanine (my arty heart) and this is my first blog post as a design team member!! I am both super excited and nervous, but I hope you will enjoy the inspiration I bring today, and in the future.  Lets start our journey together!

I am starting off this project by giving a blank page some color.  I’m not doing much, other than sprinkling some Ken Oliver – color burst to the page and activating it with water.  I lightly mush it around with a brayer to spread it all over.

Once this is dry, I apply TCW9008 Clear Modeling paste with a pallet knife through a stencil (Distressed Lace) and dry this layer.

The texture is gorgeous! Now I want to make it POP.  I add some TCW Gold and white gesso with my fingers, and it goes into the grooves made by the stencil and paste, giving it an almost mosaic effect.

I want even more bling! So I’m adding TCW Tacky when dry medium and once it’s dry, I apply light gold foil over it.  I do this sparingly, as not to take way form the amazing details!  So beautiful!

I then added some Citron spray by Heidi Swapp for some extra lime green drippings.

Loving the result, now lets grunge it up, by adding some TCW Black and Gold gesso to the page edges, to frame it perfectly.

Next I wanted to add a focal element to the page, and I am doing that by adding the Tim Holts Idea-ology Melange Tissue wrap, and I just cut out the butterflies.  I use the TCW matte gel medium to adhere them seamlessly.

These butterflies then get a lovely halo and trail to make them look magical.  For this I first use TCW White Gesso and then to add the sparkle I apply shimmery goodness.  (Can I just say one thing, and you all need to hear this!  SHIMMERY GOODNESS = LIFE! )

Final touches now, I’m adding shading with a Stabilo all pencil, some highlights with a white posca paint pen and a black sharpie marker.  Also some Tim Holtz washi tape as my journaling element.

I love this page, the textures and butterfly elements work so well together and it came together quite easily.

I hope you found some inspiration in this page today, and be sure to check out this video on my youtube channel for the full making off!
