ALWAYS BELIEVE IN YOURSELF

ALWAYS BELIEVE IN YOURSELF

This is such a bittersweet post for me. On one hand, it is the biggest piece of artwork I’ve ever done and I love how it turned out; but on the other hand, it is my last post as one of The Crafter’s Workshop design team members for 2017-2018. I have included several pictures below. I hope you enjoy it.

Note: I am a Design Team member for The Crafter’s Workshop; however, even though I use and love their products, all opinions are solely my own. #ad #advertising #sponsor

TCW SUPPLIES
TCW780 Botanical Dream – 12” x 12”, 6” x 6”,
TCW759 Tangled Vine – 12” x 12”, 6” x 6”
TCW736 Dramatic Floral – 6” x 6”,
TCW541 Believe Script – 12” x 12”
TCW770 Wildflower Duet – 12” x 12”,
TCW768 Journal Musings – 12” x 12”
TCW9015 Black Licorice acrylic paint

30″ x 40″ canvas, dictionary pages, matte medium,
printed tissue paper, gold gel paint pen,
turquoise, fuchsia, cheddar acrylic paints, calligraphy pen, gloss and matte varnish

To begin, I adhered dictionary pages onto the canvas with matte medium.

After that was dry, I painted large sections with the turquoise, fuchsia, and cheddar paints and let it dry.

The next step was to adhere torn pieces of printed tissue paper with the matte medium.

Once that dried, the big job began. Using black licorice paint I first stenciled Botanical Dream 3 times across the top third of the canvas. Each time I turned the stencil so the pattern wasn’t the same. I added the Botanical Dream in both sizes above and below the section just stenciled. Next, I stenciled Dramatic Floral above and below the section. If you look carefully, there’s a stencil line across the top portion of the Botanical Dream. I cleaned up that line by using the black paint to hand paint marks to finish the design and minimize it. In the final picture below, you’ll see it’s not noticeable.

In the bottom left I first stenciled the large Tangled Vine and then added the small Tangled Vine below it.

In the top left corner, I stenciled Journal Musings.

I wanted the canvas to look like I had journaled on it, so I stenciled Believe Script all over. I also added turquoise dots to the canvas.

I love the look of a black border so I used my new favorite way to apply a border and that is to use the part of the stencil of Wildflower Duet that outlines the left flower. The sides of the canvas were painted black.

For my title, I painted a piece of dictionary page with the turquoise paint. Once dry, I wrote my words with a calligraphy pen. After they dried, I sprayed them with Workable Fixativ so they wouldn’t bleed when I varnished the canvas. I adhered them to the canvas with matte medium.

Finishing details included gold gel dots and turquoise dots painted all over the canvas. After the dots dried, I painted 2 coats of varnish – first gloss and then matte – letting each coat dry thoroughly.
