Today I’m back to share a black and gold canvas using the new 2018 Winter Stencils and Modeling Pastes.

Note: I am a Design Team member for The Crafter’s Workshop; however, even though I use and love their products, all opinions are solely my own. #ad #advertising #sponsor

TCW Supplies:
TCW765 Flower Grid, TCW769 Flower Scroll,
TCW768 Journal Musings, TCW772 Regal Butterfly
TCW9036 Champagne Gold Modeling Paste,
TCW9043 Marcasite Silver Modeling Paste,
TCW9013 Iridescent Gold paint, TCW9015 Black Licorice paint,
TCW9019 Candy Apple paint,
TCW9011 Matte Gel Medium Clear

Palette knife, 8” x 10” canvas, book text

To begin, I gessoed and dried the canvas. Next, I stenciled Flower Scroll using Candy Apple red paint.

After that layer dried, I adhered torn pieces of book text with gel medium and dried that.

Next, I stenciled the large architectural image of Regal Butterfly twice onto the canvas using the Black Licorice. Once dry, I painted on Iridescent Gold to cover most of the remaining white canvas.

Because I had covered more black than I wanted, I restenciled some of the architectural image using the black paint. I also added some of the dots and writing from the same stencil.

My next thought was to stencil Flower Grid in 5 places on the canvas using the Champagne Gold modeling paste to finish. If you look closely, you can make out where I had stenciled; however, the images weren’t prominent enough for me so on to plan B.

I decided that Marcasite Silver modeling paste was needed and so I stenciled Journal Musings using it to complete the canvas. Two things – First, always wash your stencil immediately after using the modeling paste so you don’t ruin it. And second, I painted the edges of the canvas black with touches of gold.

I love how this canvas turned out. Here are some close-up details.
