Wild and Free Altered Picture Frame by Farrel Tailor

Hello TCW followers, I hope you are well. Today I am sharing with you all an altered picture frame I created using the gorgeous Mermaid Dreams and Ornate Borders stencils along with some TCW mixed media products. I also have a process video which is located at the bottom of the blog – I have to apologize for the length of the video. I did try to cut it down as much as possible without cutting out any process step.

Altered Picture Frame

The Crafter’s Workshop provided me with some product to create this project. The opinions I share are solely my own.

So let me show you quickly how I came about creating my altered picture frame

I started by removing the glass and photo mount from a picture frame that I bought from Kmart here in Australia. Using the back board of the frame, I adhered my Ranger Sticky back canvas sheet and applied a light coat of TCW9001 White Gesso to the canvas. I then used TCW783s Mermaid Dreams and stenciled with TCW9040 White Pearl Modeling Paste.

Once dry (I used my heat tool), I then painted my mermaid and the jelly fish using Distress Crayons, Prima Sparks and Metallique paints and TCW9013 Iridescent Gold Heavy Body Acrylic Paint.

For the background I used Lindy’s Stamp Gang Magical Shakers for the water and then stenciled the water grass using TCW785s Ornate BordersTCW9040 White Pearl Modeling Paste, TCW9024 Kale Smoothie Heavy Body Acrylic Paint. I wasn’t 100% with the water so I mixed some water with TCW9021 Blueberry Pie Heavy Body Acrylic Paint and very loosely added it to the background until I was happy.

For the picture frame, I painted on the Prima Pumice Stone Effect Paste and once it was dry then applied the Prima Patina Paste. I added some art stones and chipboard by Dusty Attic.

To cover my chipboard coins I used TCW9013 Iridescent Gold Heavy Body Acrylic Paint.

Then I heat embossed the chipboard title and sea foliage and used some Art Alchemy waxes to tone it down a little. I then added some metal charms using 3D Gloss Gel but you can use a strong glue and finished it off with some pearls.
