Bible Journaling with The Crafter’s Workshop Silver Gesso and Stencils

Hello there, it’s Gracie Chavez and today I want to share a new video tutorial using Silver Gesso for the first time on my Journaling Bible. You’ll see me use The Crafter’s Workshop Silver Gesso and a floral stencil together with a few other coloring media to create a soft mixed media Bible Journaling page.

Some of the products used to create this project were sent by The Crafter’s Workshop, nevertheless all opinions shared in this post are my own.

Video Tutorial

Many have enjoyed watching the process of my previous Bible Journaling page so this time I also prepared a timelapse video to help you understand the way I use my media. Bible pages are thinner that your usual art journal pages so you need to be mindful of how much you add to the page even when it is prepped with Clear Matte Gesso. For example, the Distress Ink concentrated refills I use will add a bit of a shadow of color on the other side of the page no matter what. On the other hand, The Crafter’s Workshop Silver Gesso will sit on top of the page and won’t damage it, adding a metallic color and shimmer as a base for the other media that’s added after it. This time the stenciling effect on the page is a lot softer because of the colors and the media I used. Since I stenciled the floral pattern in silver -with the gesso- against a lavender background, the contrast is quite soft and it is the coloring pencils and white paint marker that add definition to the image. The beautiful thing about this technique is that you can use the stencil as a base to draw and add more details. In this case, I kept the design loose and abstract but you could certainly take your time and add as much detail as you like to the stenciled design.
