Fabulous Foiled Christmas Cards

How to create beautiful shiny Christmas cards with Deco Foil

Hi everyone, Heidi here, today I would like to show you some awesome foiled Christmas cards. These cards are super easy and quick to make and look fabulous (because of all the shine they are quite hard to photograph, can you imagine that they are even more shiny and fabulous in real life!).

The Crafter’s Workshop provided me with some product to create this project. The opinions I share are solely my own. This post also contains affiliate links.

First I will describe the technique that I used and then I’ll show you the cards that I created and tell you the colour names of the specific products.

Technique

You know what: I didn’t even tell you the best part about these cards: everybody can do this, nothing fancy or difficult about it!

I created two different card designs:

For the first design I die cut a square panel, in the size that I wanted, from some coloured card stock that matched the foils that I wanted to use and selected the stencils for these cards: I used The Crafter’s Workshop stencils called  “Snowflakes “ (TCW720s)  and “Holly Background“ (TCW718s). Next I placed the stencil over the die cut square (taping the stencil to your work-surface will help in keeping the project stable) and I applied Deco Foil’s “Transfer Gel“ over the stencil using a palette knife. Wash the stencil afterwards.  Then set the panel aside to dry. That’s all you need to do! I created a bunch of panels this way, then they will all be dry around the same time. I wanted to make sure that the gel was really dry so I let the panels sit overnight. On the picture you see how it looks when it’s wet, when dry the gel is completely clear/see through.

For the next step you need a laminator. Let it heat up. You can follow the instructions given on the Transfer Gel label. Cut a piece of foil sheet a little larger then your project, place the foil on the project coloured side up (very important), place this combination into a folded piece of parchment paper (you can also use regular printer paper, when you have spots of transfer gel on the sides/back of your panel it will stick to the paper but you can take it off) and run this combination through your laminator, peel of the foil and … … … look: perfect fabulousness!

For the second design I used some crème coloured card stock, die cut a square panel the same way as the first technique. Then I stamped one of the sentiments from the Stampin‘Up stamp set called “Flurry of Wishes“ onto the left side of the panel repeatedly and then put the Transfer Gel on in the same way as with the first design, just leaving parts of the stencil on the left side uncovered so you can still read the sentiment. The rest is the same as with the first design.

While the Transfer Gel was drying I worked on the sentiments for these cards: I stamped a Quietfire Design stamp called “A Smile is the best Christmas Decoration“ onto some crème coloured card stock several times and die cut them with a square stitched die. I also created mats in matching colours and looked for ribbons that would match in my stash. After the foiling was done I put the cards together using liquid glue for my mats and one millimetre thick foam tape for the layers.

Last but not least:

Of the cards that I created I love this one the best, I think it’s because of the foil that I used for this card: because there are multiple colours in this foil it gives a lot of dimension to the project. If you would like to get some foil but you can’t decide on which colour then I would suggest picking this one, you won’t regret it! But then again, all these foils make awesome Christmas cards and there are even lots more colours to choose from then the colours I have shown you here today!

For this card I used:

Deco Foil “Transfer Sheets“ in the colour “Emerald Watercolor“

– Archival Ink in the colour “Jet Black“;

– Deep red coloured card stock for my mats, deep red coloured ribbon and a crème coloured linen textured card base. Again, use whatever you have in your stash.

And that’s it for today’s Christmas project!

  1. Love your cards – so pretty! I am going to order a laminator and will be making more using the deco foils. Great job. 😉
