Tannenbaum Christmas Cards

How to create an easy Christmas card featuring a Christmas tree design

Hi everyone, Heidi here, today I have a bonus Christmas card project for you guys! Both of today’s cards are created in the same way, just the colour combination is different.

——————————–

The Crafter’s Workshop provided me with some product to create this project. The opinions I share are solely my own.

——————————–

There aren’t many steps for creating these cards but in case you would like to follow along you can (the pictures are from both cards, in the description you can find more details):

Step 1: The basics: I’m working with white linen textured card bases today, like I often prefer. I created two mats for each card, for the red card I die cut a dark grey mat from some dark grey linen textured card stock and for the green card I die cut a dark pink mat from some dark pink card stock. To create these mats I use two rectangle nesting die sets (one regular set and one stitched set).

Then the actual card making fun begins. First we create the stitched rectangle panel for the green card. To do so I die cut a white linen textured stitched rectangle panel and then apply Distress Oxide Ink in the colour “Peeled Paint“ over that panel using a foam applicator tool, fading the ink a little towards the bottom of the panel. The red panel is made from normal red card stock, no inking involved here. Then I stamped the CraftEmotions “Christmas Background Text“ stamp randomly on the panel in three different places, on the red panel I used Versafine “Crimson Red“ ink and on the green panel I use Versafine “Onyx Black“ ink.

Step 2: Then it’s time to create the Christmas trees. For this I used a The Crafter’s Workshop stencils called “Christmas Tree“ (TCW719s). I placed the stencil over the panel that I’m working on, adhering the stencil to my craft sheet with tape. On the red panel I used The Crafter’s Workshop “Black Modeling Paste“ ( TCW9009) and on the green panel I used The Crafter’s Workshop “Modeling Paste “ (TCW9005) which is white and awesome! When you can’t decide on which colour modeling paste to try first, this white one would be my pick, because it’s the most versatile one! I applied the modeling paste using a palette knife. As you can see on the finished card the tree on my green panel is green, that’s because the Oxide Ink that we applied on the white panel first was soaked up by the modeling paste giving the tree it’s green appearance! Isn’t this awesome, we just created our own green Christmas tree! For this to work you shouldn’t wait to long between applying the Oxide Ink to the paper and putting the modeling paste on afterwards (with the stamping in between). Now we set these panels aside to dry until the modeling paste has hardened.

Step 3: This is only for the red card with the black Christmas tree: to ad some metallic shine to this tree I decided to apply some gilding wax in the colour “Treasure Pewter“ over the tree, using just a tiny little bit and using my finger to apply. This step gives awesome shine to our black tree.

Step 4: Then it’s time to start working on the sentiments: I die cut two banners, using the middle sized die from the Lawn Fawn “Everyday Sentiment Banners“ die set, one banner is die cut from black card stock and the other from dark grey card stock. Then I used VersaMark ink to stamp two different sentiments from the Clearly Besotted stamp set called “Sweet Little Sentiments“ on the banners and heat embossing with Ranger “White Super Fine Detail “ embossing powder. I adhered the black banner to some vellum with tape runner and free hand cut around it using my Fiskars scissors to create a bit more definition between the black tree and the black banner.

Step 5: And then it’s time to put these cards together: I adhered the mats for each card together using liquid glue. Then I adhered the banners to the cards using one millimetre thick foam tape on the front, folding the banners around the back, and adhering them with regular tape on the back. And finally I adhered these combined panels with the banners to the white linen textured card base using one millimetre thick foam tape. To finish this card I embellished with some sequins to make these cards extra sparkly (for the red card I used some metallic red sequins from my stash, bought on a craft show, no name brand, and on the green card I used Cartwrights Sequins in the colour “Metallic Razzleberry“ in different sizes and adhering them with Ranger Medium Matte).
