Explore Mixed Media Canvas by Farrel Tailor

Hello TCW Fans!!! Farrel here to share with you all a mixed media canvas I created featuring some of our amazing products. This month we were very lucky to be given the chance to create using some digital images by Altered Pages. If you haven’t already please head on over to their website as their images are just fabulous!!! So here is what I created….

The Crafter’s Workshop provided me with some product to create this project. The opinions I share are solely my own.

So let me show you how I created this canvas. There is a process video at the end of the blog if you would like to see me in action.

I started off with a 5×7 inch canvas board and applied TCW9004 Light & Fluffy Modeling Paste to my TCW454s Mini Specimens stencil. Once it was dry I then used Distress Paint – Broken China and applied all over.   This canvas is all about layers so once the paint had dried, I then brushed on a small amount of Distress Micro Glaze and then added Distress Paint Spiced Marmalade.

The next step was to add more layers using Distress Stains – Peacock Feathers, Tea Dye and Hickory Smoke. Making sure I used my heat gun to dry in between colours.

Once I was happy with the colours, I then used a Distress Crayon – Gathered Twigs to go around the edges and also blended over some of the stenciled area. I felt it needed something else so I added Distress Stain – Walnut Stain and just lightly brushed over the canvas. I did use a baby wipe to help blend in the colour.

Next I printed my Altered Pages Steampunk Era and Paris Dreams images onto a sheet of Computer Grafix Printable Transparent Plastic Sheets. And wow oh wow!! I have fallen in love with this stuff!!!! Once I cut out my images I then just peeled the backing off and stuck it down onto my patterned paper.

Once I had done that, I then added some stamping onto my background using black archival ink. I then used Grafix Artist-tac to adhere my Eiffel Tower to the canvas. I felt the canvas needed some dimension so I embossed some cogs using Stampendous All Seasonings Enamel and glued them along with some metal cogs onto the canvas.

Next I covered my Dusty Attic Chipboard title with Broken China Distress Paint and toned down the colour using the Distress Stains Tea Dye, Hickory Smoke and Walnut Stain. Once it was dry, I then adhered it to the canvas. I added some Tim Holtz Stickers and finished it off with some splattering using Dylusions White Linen Spray.
