Easy DIY Halloween candle decoration

How to make you own Halloween candle decoration with stencils

Hi everyone, Heidi here, today I would like to show you how you can create your own Halloween candle decoration the easy way!

The Crafter’s Workshop provided me with some product to create this project. The opinions I share are solely my own. This post also contains affiliate links.

To get this project started you need to find an empty large candle jar (for example Yankee Candle, Goose Creek or Village Candle). Clean it well and then we can start.

Tape a The Crafter’s Workshop stencil called “Scary Web“ (TCW723s) on the jar, this prevents the stencil from sliding around while you’re working with the ink. Then apply StazOn “Jet Black“ ink over the stencil, working it in the open area’s of the stencil, using a foam applicator tool. The ink will stain your stencil but this will not influence future use.

When you’re done applying the ink, take the stencil of carefully, the ink is still a bit wet. You can correct any mistakes or clean up the design when needed with alcohol and an ear cotton swab. After a couple of minutes the ink will be dry.

At a party decoration store where they also sold Halloween decoration I bought a black/gold coloured spider and some fake cobweb (you only need a little). Take some of the cobweb and wrap it around the top of the jar, making sure that none of this is hanging over the edge, we don’t want to create a fire-hazard. Attach the cobweb to the jar with some hemp twine, wrapping it around the jar twice and tying a knot (leave the ends hanging, we need them later on). Pull some of the cobweb down so it looks more cobwebby and natural.

Then you can adhere the spider with some The Crafter’s Workshop “Gloss Gel Medium“ (TCW9006)  and put it aside to dry (lay the jar on it’s side, making sure it can’t roll of the table). This part will take time, so you’ll have to plan ahead a little.

I wanted to ad some additional decoration to the jar: for this I choose one of the images from Altered Pages. This particular one is an image from the collage sheet called “562 Other Side of Halloween“.

I printed the image that I wanted to use on regular printer paper. I die cut around the image using one of the dies in the Stampin‘ Up “Lots of Labels“ die set and I edged the die cut with a Memento “Tuxedo Black“ marker, to give it a more defined edge. I also die cut another label from some matching gold/orange glitter paper and adhered these labels together using liquid glue. Through these combined labels I punched a hole with a perforator.

When you are sure that the spider is well adhered (the medium is dry when it looks clear and see through, not white like milk), knot the labels on the project using the hemp twine we had hanging of the jar earlier on and cut of the excess.

Now you can fill the jar with sand and a candle and you’re ready for Halloween!

Thank you Altered Pages for providing the design team with these awesome images.

We would love to see what you create with The Crafter‘s Workshop Stencils and Mediums.
You can share it with us on our Facebook page, Instagram, Twitter, and Pinterest using hashtag #tcwstencillove.

And that’s it for today’s project! I wish you’ll a creative day!
