The Benefit of Dirty Stencils by Donna Salazar

Hello everyone! I’m thrilled to be guest blogging for The Crafter’s Workshop. Today I’m sharing one of my favorite Girlie Grunge techniques using the TCW stencils… DIRTY! Yep, I very rarely clean my stencils because I like the look that you can get when the paint starts to come off of them while you’re working with them on a gel plate. The photo below is of one of the prints I made during a play session of about 40 minutes. If you don’t have that long to play, you can try to mist your stencils with a small amount of water and let them sit for a good 5-10 minutes before you start playing. This technique can only be done successfully with a really nice quality stencil… and the quality of these stencils is amazing!

In case you didn’t notice, There isn’t much added to this print to make the layout. I mounted it on card stock, added a photo, title and journaling… and nothing else. There are so many interesting textures going on that you don’t need anything else.

Here is a video of a portion of my playtime with the TCW stencils on a Gel Press plate.

And here is a super close up photo of the detail of this print. You can even see some of the lettering from the name of the stencil… LOL!

Product used:

The Crafter’s Workshop – Rosetta 12×12 & 6×6

GelPress – 12×14 reusable gel printing plate

Paint used: Liquitex, Windsor & Newton, DecoArt, & Art Anthology

Paper used for monoprints: Hammermill Digital Color Copy Paper

Thanks for stopping by! I hope you enjoyed my quick little video and I’ll see you next time!

Smooches ~D~
