SHE SAID YES – AN ART JOURNAL PAGE

Hello folks, Nancy here, and welcome to a tutorial for an art journal page using clear gesso and great new stencils from The Crafter’s Workshop.

When I realized my post was scheduled for the eighth of May, I felt inspired to create a journal page to celebrate my parents and what would have been their 63rd wedding anniversary.

The Crafter’s Workshop provided me with some product to create this project. The opinions I share are solely my own.

Supplies Used:

9″ x 12″ 140 lb watercolor journal

TCW659 12″ x 12″ She Said Yes stencil

TCW680 12″ x 12″ Celebration stencil

TCW Clear Gesso

fluid acrylic paint: deep periwinkle

foam brush/paintbrush

heat tool

baby wipes

fluid chalk ink: blue iris

masking tape

copy of vintage image

glue stick

Position She Said Yes stencil on journal page and apply clear gesso over bride. Lower the stencil and move to the right; apply gesso. Repeat once more for a total of three brides. Dry with heat tool.

Water down fluid acrylic paint to create a wash and using a foam brush cover entire page. Using baby wipe, blend and remove paint from bride images. The clear gesso will act as a resist. (I used periwinkle for the background as that was the color of my own bridesmaids’ dresses!)

Add a border to the bottom and one side of journal page with Celebration stencil and fluid chalk ink. Before beginning, mask off unwanted areas of stencil design with masking tape.

Add “She Said Yes” phrase from stencil to the top right of page with fluid chalk ink.

Add copy of vintage image and adhere with glue stick. Add an application of fluid chalk ink to the outside edges to frame and soften page.

A journal page need not be complicated with a boat load of materials used. Sometimes a simple page with a few key supplies can be just as powerful. This simple page speaks of sixty-three years of love and devotion spent in this earthly life and the next.

Happy Anniversary, Mom and Dad!

I hope you’ve enjoyed this tutorial for an art journal page using clear gesso as a resist and wonderful new stencils from The Crafter’s Workshop.
