TIME FOR GRACE ~ A MIXED MEDIA PIECE

Hello folks, Nancy here, and welcome to a tutorial for a fun mixed media piece using some great new products and stencils from The Crafter’s Workshop.

The Crafter’s Workshop provided me with some product to create this project. The opinions I share are solely my own.

Supplies used:

TCW681 12″ x 12″ Bauhaus stencil

TCW707s 6″ x 6″ One Way stencil

TCW705s 6″ x 6″ Star & Flower stencil

TCW702s 6″ x 6″ Peace Doves stencil

TCW White Gesso

TCW Clear Modeling Paste

TCW Heavy Body Acrylic Paint: Kale Smoothie & Lemon Custard

140 lb watercolor paper

fluid chalk ink: deep lagoon, chestnut roan

Staz-On ink: black

Tear and adhere a variety of scrapbooking papers to 140 lb. watercolor paper. Apply white gesso with a dry brush, and wipe with a baby wipe, to partially obscure the patterns.

Using acrylic paint in a dauber bottle, add turquoise paint to the background and blend with baby wipes.

Mix mustard acrylic paint with liquid glazing medium and apply to select areas of background and blend.

Using a stiff brush and distress ink, age the images of a window and clock and adhere to piece.

 With mustard paint in a dauber bottle, add color around images and blend.

Using TCW681 Bauhaus stencil and fluid chalk ink with sponge dauber, apply overall pattern to the background.

Mix together TCW clear modeling paste and TCW Kale Smoothie heavy body acrylic paint on a craft sheet.

Position TCW707s One Way stencil in multiple locations and use palette knife to spread modeling paste mixture over select area of stencil.

Mix TCW clear modeling paste with TCW Lemon Custard heavy body acrylic.

Position TCW705s Star & Flower stencil in two locations and, using palette knife, spread with molding paste mixture.

Apply turquoise acrylic paint inside flower portion of stencil and blend.

Combine acrylic glazing liquid and burnt sienna acrylic paint. Use a paintbrush to coat the entire pice with the glaze mixture.

 Position TCW702s Peace Doves stencil over window image and use fluid chalk ink over word “Grace.”

Adhere word cut from vintage text (and edged with chestnut roan fluid chalk ink) over the flower image.

Using alphabet stamps and Staz-On ink add lyrics from “Amazing Grace” to the piece and draw a hanging heart from the words.

Frame entire piece with an application of fluid chalk ink around the edges.

Using the new mixed media products and stencils from The Crafter’s Workshop made this piece so much fun to create and added fabulous texture in great colors.
