Hi there everyone! In celebration of all the holidays and New Year’s parties, I decided to expand on my recent discovery for the lovely combination of burlap and stencils!
After making the little gift bags for my nieces, I decided to go larger. I used three different collage stencils, all from Rebekah Meier and the Black Gesso.
The Crafter’s Workshop provided me with some product to create this project. The opinions I share are solely my own.
I bought these pre-made burlap placemats from my local craft store. I could have used plain burlap fabric, but liked the rounded & sewn edges of these pre-made pieces.
Using a proper stiff stencil brush, which I normally don’t use, I started adding The Crafter’s Workshop Black Gesso over the chosen stencils in a random pattern. I wanted them to look a little more clustered and not as planned as the actual stencil, so I overlapped the images. I also changed stencils and added different graphics and images.
I continued to layer and place different pieces, until I was happy with the composition.
There is something about the contrasting black & natural burlap material that is so appealing! I had planned to add layers of the Gold or White Opaque Gesso, but they seemed to take away from the clean effect of the Black and brown.
The great thing about a project like this, is the ability to customize it for your party, dishes, table settings and add as many as needed! I will probably add a couple more to make a set of 6. I had originally planned to give these as a gift, but may keep them now! 😉
( On a side note, I plan to iron them on a cool setting, under a tea towel or parchment paper, to set the paint. I would suggest spot cleaning as well. )
Thanks so much for stopping by the Blog today!
