Mixed Media Canvas Zipper Pouch

I love little zipper pouches! I love to fill them with pens, pencils, markers, loose change, makeup and well just about everything! I love to organize my purse and studio space with them and be able to find all the bits and bobbles that fill my life. I recently ran across some blank canvas pouches at my local craft store and I decided to grab some for myself and a few extras so I can make some handmade gifts for the holidays! Check out the supply list and project tutorial below to create a special little bag for yourself or to give as a gift!

Supplies: ink, fabric paint, stencils, pouch

Supplies: ink, fabric paint, stencils, pouch

Supplies:
TCW655 Cactus
TCW637 Swirly Cue
Blank Canvas Zipper Pouch
Tulip soft Matte Fabric Paint in various colors
Daler Rowney FW Acrylic Ink (hot pink)
Permanent Marker
Flat Brush
Round Brush
Stencil paint applicator

First select a color of acrylic ink and drop it on the canvas pouch.

Apply acrylic ink to the pouch

Smear the ink across the pouch in an organic way let it be a bit messy and really push the ink into the fibers to stain the pouch.

Let the ink dry completely before moving on to the fabric paint application. Use your stencil paint applicator and apply black paint through the stencil to the canvas bag.

Apply your next stencil and use your permanent marker to draw a loopy organic line on the pouch.

Next use some additional fabric paint colors to fill in the loopy lines you created with the marker and another color to shade in around the lines you drew. I choose orange for my loops and I shaded the edges in yellow.

Next I added some stars from stencil TCW655 Cactus and white details to the flowers from stencil TCW637 Swirly Cue. I also added some lines and dots to create visual interest and move your eye around the composition I created on the pouch.

I finished up my pouch with some additional hot pink acrylic ink to fill in the canvas spots a bit. Fabric paint takes some extra time to dry so be careful when you are adding additional details or additional ink. Allow it to dry overnight before using it.

This was such a fun project and I love when art can also be a usable item! I would love to see how you use stencils on pouches, bags or other everyday items so be sure to share your creations on The Crafter’s Workshop Facebook page or by tagging The Crafter’s Workshop on InstagramTwitter or Pinterest! Also tag me @Drawriot if you share on Instagram! Until next time, keep creating! ?
