Day of the Dead Wreath

Hello Stencil Lovers!  I am super excited to share my post for today because it is part of my favorite holiday!  I love decorating for Halloween with my family and thought our mantle needed a little extra something.  I have lots of copper and warm metallic hues and thought some sugar skulls and roses would be a great compliment!

The Crafter’s Workshop provided me with some product to create this project.  The opinions I share are solely my own.

I started my projects by using two of the small ‘Bits’ stencils and some plain heavy cardstock.day-of-the-dead-wreath_tcw_oct-2016-3I used the Light & Fluffy Modeling Paste (still my fav!) and mixed it with black acrylic paint.day-of-the-dead-wreath_tcw_oct-2016-4I applied the mixture over the sugar skull stencil multiple times, making sure to lift it carefully to get a clean impression.day-of-the-dead-wreath_tcw_oct-2016-6Next, I combine the regular thick Modeling Paste and acrylic paint in red, and mist in peach.day-of-the-dead-wreath_tcw_oct-2016-8I used that for the roses and made multiples of each color.  I wasn’t too careful about the entire stencil since I knew I would be doing the leaves separate.  I did the same process for the leaves using green acrylic paint.day-of-the-dead-wreath_tcw_oct-2016-9After the paste was all dry, I trimmed them each out leaving a small border around each image.  I then used a thick sheet to laminate the pieces.  I wanted to be able to use this next year and wanted it to stand up to storage, or getting wet, if I hang it outside.day-of-the-dead-wreath_tcw_oct-2016-15Finally, I trimmed out all the newly laminated pieces.day-of-the-dead-wreath_tcw_oct-2016-18Using a hot glue gun, I adhered all the pieces to a vine wreath, layering the roses, leaves and skulls randomly.day-of-the-dead-wreath_tcw_oct-2016-21Here is a close up.  I think the lamination almost makes them look like iced cookies!day-of-the-dead-wreath_tcw_oct-2016-33I love the colors and it makes a perfect addition to our decor!day-of-the-dead-wreath_tcw_oct-2016-29day-of-the-dead-wreath_tcw_oct-2016-28
