Hello all, Nancy here with a Halloween-themed art journal page. Fun to create and fun for you to view, I hope!
True confession time…I do not like to dress up in costume for Halloween and despite my best friend’s prodding, I am not one to decorate for the holiday. Sure, carved Jack-O-Lanterns and the occasional scarecrow person when the boys were young, but that was the extent. In my defense, we don’t get any trick-or-treaters in our neighborhood. Is that a convincing defense?
That said, I did have fun with this journal page, creating big head masks for some vintage gals!
The Crafter’s Workshop provided me with some product to create this project. The opinions I share are solely my own.

Cover the journal page with newspaper, ephemera and text using glue stick to adhere. Coat with clear gesso, and as the newspaper will wrinkle, flatten with a brayer after you dry with a heat tool. (If you use the brayer while the paper is still damp it can peel up and stick to the brayer.)
Apply acrylic paint to the background papers and blend with a baby wipe. Grunge up the outer edges of the page with burnt sienna acrylic paint; blend.
Remove heads (oh, my!) from image of vintage ladies. Adhere image and decorative paper to the page using glue stick.
Mask off areas of Mini Sugar Skull stencil with masking tape. Position over the ladies and apply black gesso with a foam spouncer. Dry with a heat tool.
Position stencil back over one sugar skull and apply gold gesso over the black for a shimmery effect.
Use a rainbow of gouache paints to fill in the sugar skulls with color.
Mask off areas of Mini Brazen Star stencil around the small “flower” design. Using mustard and orange paints, stencil flowers onto black decorative paper on journal page. When dry, trace around flowers with white gel pen.
Add sentiment to the journal page with white correction fluid pen and outline with black gel pen. Finish the page with a swipe of black Staz-On ink around the outer edges.
Whether or not you are “big” on Halloween, I hope you’ve enjoyed this art journal page tutorial. Believe me, creating it with stencils and product from The Crafter’s Workshop was BIG FUN indeed!
Happy Halloween!
Thanks for visiting and I’ll see you next time!
