“fRiDa” by ART BY MARLENE

Hi there all my arty friends!

It is me , Marlene, from ART BY MARLENE. I am going to share a very short and sweet tutorial with you.

Don’t you just love Frida Kahlo?? I do!

So, today I am going to combine  the cool Crafter’s Workshop stencils with my watercolors and create a magical Frida! I will be using  2 stencils that I used in my blogpost of 2 September again, but now in quite a different way!

HOW:

I am actually going to combine 3 of Crafty Chica’s(Kathy Cano-Murillo) stencil designs for THE CRAFTER’S WORKSHOP in one single journal page!

The stencils from left to right is: La Artista TCW645 , Chica Words TCW650  and Chica Doodles TCW654

I start by tracing the “La Artista” stencil with pencil.

Add some pattern to the dress with the “Chica Doodles” stencil and words with the “Chica Words” stencil.

Now start filling in your whole stencil with watercolour. To prevent it from looking like a colouring page, make sure you create enough shading and highlights…by using more and less pigment and more or less water.

ART BY MARLENE journal page – add watercolour and fineliner

You can see that I left quite a bit of white in the top part of my page to make the word stick out more. I also splattered on some random paint ….to give it a painterly effect. When you do this, cover the face with one hand, to prevent the paint splatteres from forming “acne” on her face. Finish your page off by adding detail with a white and black fineliner. (I used a white signo pen and a black pilot permaball)

That was it for today folks!

I hope you enjoyed this short and sweet tutorial and hope to read what you think of it in the comments below!

See you soon!
