Hi there all, Nancy here with a tutorial for a quick and easy art journal page using new stencils from The Crafter’s Workshop.
My art journal is where I turn to try out new products and techniques, and such was the case with the stencils and new gold gesso from The Crafter’s Workshop.
The Crafter’s Workshop provided me with some product to create this project. The opinions I share are solely my own.
Supplies Used:
12″ x 12″ Cactus stencil TCW655
6″ x 6″ La Rosa stencil TCW649s
140 lb watercolor art journal
fluid acrylic paints: mustard, aqua, robin’s egg blue, light pink, magenta, purple
baby wipes
foam brushes/spouncers
masking tape
white gel pen/marker/correction fluid pen
alphabet rubber stamps
Staz-On ink: mustard
vintage text
washi tape
fluid chalk ink: yellow ochre, rouge
******************************************
Apply acrylic paint to journal and blend with baby wipes, paying closest attention to edges where colors will merge.
Mask off stars around cactus and position stencil on journal page. Use foam spouncer with the gold gesso to fill in cactus.
Use 6″ x 6″ La Rosa stencil and acrylic paint to add overlapping rose pattern to top, bottom and sides of journal page. Use three colors of acrylic paint and a spouncer to apply.
Use white gel pen to add cactus spines.
Add the message to the page with rubber stamped words, vintage text and marker. A correction fluid pen makes an opaque white line which, when traced around with a fine line marker, really pops. Use fluid chalk ink around edges of cut out text & stamped words. Add interest to the page with washi tape.
An application of fluid chalk ink around the outer edges of the journal page creates a nice “frame” and completes the page.
I hope you’ve enjoyed this tutorial and next time you want to test drive a new TCW stencil or product, you’ll reach for your art journal.
See you next time!
