Greetings from Nancy!
Today’s project is a page in my art journal…a nice 9 x 12 size which gives me plenty of room to play. The inspiration comes directly from the Mini Citrus Montage stencil and a twist on a phrase we all know well. “If life gives you lemons, make lemonade.” Well, quite frankly, I’m full up on lemonade and I need a respite from all the lemons lately! Have you ever felt that way? So, with some lemons and a twist, this art journal page evolved.
The Crafter’s Workshop provided me with some product to create this project. The opinions I share are solely my own.
9 x 12 art journal – 140 lb watercolor paper
acrylic paint: vanilla & butter cream
Staz-On ink: mustard
ColorBox Fluid Chalk Ink: yellow ochre
Using copies of vintage ephemera and text, tear then adhere to journal page with glue stick; coat with matte medium and dry with heat gun.
Mix vanilla & butter cream acrylic paint and apply a light wash to the background. Then, using vanilla paint, a sponge applicator and TCW Mini Citrus Montage stencil, add design to the page.
Sketch a lemonade pitcher on the right side of the journal page and paint with watered down vanilla acrylic to let the stencil pattern show through.
Block off areas on Mini Citrus Montage stencil with masking tape for select placement of design on the lemonade pitcher. Use fluid chalk ink through stencil.
Paint lemons with acrylic paint and outline pitcher and lemons with black marker.
Add phrase to the left side of the journal page using cut out text and rubber stamped words. Use fluid chalk ink to highlight the edges of words; adhere to page.
An application of fluid chalk ink around the edges completes the journal page.
Here’s hoping that life takes it easy with all of those lemons!
