Hi everyone! Welcome to today’s art journal blog post! Kim here, sharing a journal spread that I created using a few of my favorite things…numbers, text, and butterflies. WooHoo! Because I used the 12×12 version of the Numbers Collage (TCW210) stencil, this page was a quick and easy spread to complete. Check out the steps below…

I started by covering my art journal pages with Dina Wakley’s black gesso.  (I’m working in a Dylusions art journal) Once the gesso was completely dry, I laid the stencil over the pages and applied Wendy Vecchi’s Crackled Texture Paste.
TCW210NumbersCollageArtJournalHere’s a close up photo of that beautiful crackle that developed after the paste was dry.
TCW210NumbersCollageCrackleDelicious! Now…here’s what I discovered. The crackled paste did not adhere to the black gesso…flakes were occurring and I wasn’t exactly sure how to get it to stay on my pages. (*Note* This crackle paste works best when applied over other pastes) What I needed was some sort of glue…matte medium? How about the new Tim Holtz Vintage Distress Collage Medium (basically tinted matte medium)….Perfection! You can see a before and after comparison below. The collage medium keep all of my beautiful crackling visible and permanently stuck to the pages! And…with an instant vintage look…LOVE it!
TCW210NumbersCollageVintageOnce the collage medium was dry, I added three circles, which were die cut using Spellbinders dies, and added the butterflies. These gorgeous butterflies were designed by Julie Fei-Fan Balzer and are stamps produced by Impression Obsession. However, you can also create this same look using the Layered Butterflies (TCW291) stencil, which includes the same butterfly designs. (Here’s a post from Julie demonstrating this stencil/stamp combo)
TCW210NumbersCollageButterflies2I stamped the butterflies on gelli printed deli paper and then glued the deli paper to heavier cardstock so that the butterflies would hold their shape. I fussy cut the butterflies and attached them with foam tape. A few rhinestone swirls were added to two of the butterflies, to show flight, and I added a few stamped words to the circles. The sentiment “be full of grace” was from an old chipboard sticker set I had in my stash, and is a reminder for me to be full of grace when parenting my children. 🙂 A quick splash of some pink paint splatters was a necessary last step. A few other close up photos are listed below. I hope you enjoyed today’s post! Happy Crafting!
