Hello friends! This is Carmen back with you again! The wonderful Spring weather is enticing my Hibiscus flowers to bloom and that has inspired me to create this tropical flowers art journal page. The 2016 The Crafter’s Workshop stencils have a wonderful variety of flowers and vines.
The Crafter’s Workshop provided me with some product to create this project. The opinions I share are solely my own.
Supplies I used…
- TCW612 Tropical Elements 12″ x 12″
- TCW612s Tropical Elements 6″ x 6″
- TCW2103 Hibiscus flower bit
- TCW576 Leaf Branches
- TCW280 Blazonry
- Americana Acrylics; Spa Blue, Light Avocado, Saffron Yellow, Gingerbread
- Modeling Paste
- makeup sponges
- Palette Knife
I started off with a double page in my art journal that I had created with left over paint. You can see the negative impressions of the Leaf Branches and Blazonry stencils.
I brushed on a layer of wash with American acrylics in Spa Blue and Light Avocado to fill in the white spaces.
I started creating the tropical garden using the 12″ x 12″ Tropical elements stencil with acrylic paint in Gingerbread and Forest Green.
To create the Hibiscus flowers I used the 6″ x 6″ Tropical elements stencil with a mixture of Saffron Yellow and Gingerbread. I also painted in some Saffron Yellow to some of the other flowers to add more detail.
I always like to add a sun element to my landscapes and gardens. I love using the small bits and remnants in unusual shapes. Here I used the flower bit that is shaped like a Hibiscus. Mixing modeling paste with the Saffron Yellow and then applying with a small palette knife.
Here is the Hibiscus in my garden that inspired me to create this page.
So, the next time you have a journal page that has some left over paint on it, think outside of the box and create a new page.
Do you have some flowers or plants in your garden that can inspire you to create?
Blessings,
The Crafter’s Workshop Design Team Member
