March Days

I am so so happy it is March! It definitely roared in like a lion (we had snow storms last week!) and today it was over 70 degrees. I love March so much, I made an art journal page for it :)…

I had fun creating this quick art journal spread. I used a lot of techniques I learned from a class I took a couple years ago with TCW designer Julie Balzer. I remember being so shocked and terrified that Julie covered up so much of her pages with dark paint! But I had to give it a try myself! Here’s how I made this page…

I started with the Overlapping Stripes stencil and some texture paste. Once it dried I painted my entire page pink and purple. Then I used white paint with the new Poppy Field stencil, and teal paint with the Corncob Etching stencil.

I added some more background layers with lime green paint over parts of the Doodled Patterns stencil. I love these types of stencils because there are so many different uses out of just one stencil!

Now I begin to cover it all up! I used the Painted Lady stencil and began painting the entire page in a dark navy paint.

I love how the background comes through, even in the thin lines of the butterfly stencil.

Finally I added a quote from one of my favorite books of all time: Great Expectations.

“It was one of those March days where the sun shines hot and the wind blows cold: when it is summer in the light and winter in the shade.”

I hope you’re having a beautiful March day where ever you are!
