Hello friends! This is Carmen back with you again to share a new tutorial. Spring time always gets me thinking of Paris and all the vibrant colors that bloom. So I decided to create a mixed media canvas showcasing the colors but also my love for script and letters. This was a perfect opportunity to use some of my stencils from the Winter 2016 collection from The Crafter’s Workshop.
The Crafter’s Workshop provided me with some product to create this project. The opinions I share are solely my own.
Supplies used…
- 8″ x 10″ canvas
- TCW593s Doodled Pattern
- TCW626 Carte Postale
- DecoArt American Acrylic Paints – Soft Sage, Golden Straw, Wasabi Green, Graphite, Pansy Lavender, Antique Teal
- Lyquitex Light Modeling Paste
- Gesso
I started off by covering the canvas with a layer of gesso first. Once dry, I added the background colors of soft sage, golden straw and wasabi green for a soft background.
One of the things I love about The Crafter’s Workshop stencils is that they design them with so many elements on one stencil that you can create an entire canvas almost from just one stencil. You can vary it also by using the larger 12″ x 12″ size and the 6″ x 6″ partner.
I started adding details with the Doodled Pattern stencil in the smaller version. I love these doodles!
Continuing the layers of stencils and paint I started adding elements from the Carte Postale stencil with some graphite color paint
One of my favorite ways to add texture and dimension is combining modeling paste with paint and using it with the stencil. Antique Teal is one of my favorite DecoArt colors and I think it will look perfect on this canvas.
Pansy Lavender is a perfect shade to add some pops of color with the Paris words script. I used both the larger and small size stencils for this part.
Here is the finished piece and you can see all the layers, colors and texture coming together for a Letters from Paris theme. I hope you enjoyed the creative process and make sure to come back soon for more tutorials.
Blessings,
