Clay Ornaments

Howdy, howdy everyone! This is Carmen Medlin. Today I’m going to show you some clay ornaments I made using my TCW613s Pretty Succulents 6×6 and TCW580s Graceful Moths 6×6 template designs.

First, I roll a ball of air-dry clay and flatten it into a circle shape on a hard surface.

Then, I place the part of the stencil I want to use on the ornament on top of the clay and press around it with my fingers and gently with a blunt pencil for the small details until the clay raises up through the holes. I found that the ornament with the slight dome shape took the impression more easily. I also added a hole for string by pressing the eraser end of a mechanical pencil into the clay and carefully hollowing it out.

After the clay dries for a few days, I put some mod-podge over it to seal. I accidentally got one of my other ornaments wet (not shown) and it got all squishy and deformed, so you’ll definitely want to seal it with something waterproof!

Then comes the fun part of choosing colors and painting. I used acrylics and paint pens that have a gloss to them, but you could always use a glossy sealant again over the top.

If you want to hang them up, just add string! Hooray!!
