Mardi Gras Inspired Canvas Board

Mardi Gras, also known as Fat Tuesday, is the last day of feasting before Lent begins on Ash Wednesday.  The colors with Mardi Gras are a vibrant purple, green and gold.  They symbolize justice, power and faith.  I’ve created a Mardi Gras inspired canvas board to capture the colors and feel of Mardi Gras.

The Crafter’s Workshop provided me with some product to create this project.

Here are the supplies I used….

I wanted to use shades of the same palette of purple, green and gold.  I started by laying an acrylic paint surface on the already gessoed canvas board with celery green, marigold and wisteria.

One of my favorite stencils is this squared scrolls in both the 6″ x 6″ and 12″ x 12″.  I love the pattern it leaves.  Here I used it with the vibrant pansy lavender in parts of the board with a makeup sponge.

The only color not in the palette that I used was this soft black to bring some music to the canvas board with the sheet music stencil.  You can see the layers starting to come together.

I sprayed some purple mister at the top of the board and added some water spritz to get the dripping effect.  I love these Media Line misters because once they dry, they don’t blend if you add another layer.  The butterscotch paint was used with the daily buzz stencil to add some vibrant flowers and the last details with the gold and white markers.

This is one way you can capture the feel of a holiday or event without actually using words or the traditional elements of the holiday.  Use the color palette that represents the holiday!
