Hello friends, this is Carmen with you again sharing a tutorial. Making mixed media tags is one of my favorite art forms. When I first saw this Love is Complicated stencil from The Crafter’s Workshop I knew I wanted to use it in a tag. Because, we all know that love can be very complicated! I really enjoyed making these for The Crafter’s Workshop Design Team.
The Crafter’s Workshop provided me with some product to create this project. The opinions I share are solely my own.
Supplies I used…
- #10 Manila tags
- TCW547s Repeating Pods
- TCW567s Complicated Hearts
- TCW552s Daisy Splash
- Gesso
- Crackle paste
- Americana Acrylic paint in Cashmere Beige, Soft Black, Cranberry Wine, Soft Sage
- Tim Holtz Distress Ink in Peacock Feathers, Seedless Preserves, Fire Brick Red
I created two different styles of tags to show how versatile this stencil can be with Valentine’s tags .
I first applied a thin layer of gesso to each tag and then painted a background layer of Cashmere Beige. I then swirled on some distress ink in Fire Brick Red with the repeating pods stencil and foam pad applicator.
I used soft black and cranberry wine acrylic paint with the Complicated Hearts stencil.
I also applied the distress ink around the edge of the tag to give it a more finished look.
I love the simplicity of this tag and it’s so easy to make. Using distress inks with stencils is such an easy way to create backgrounds too. With the second tag I applied a layer of soft sage acrylic paint and then used the Busy Daisies stencil with Peacock Feathers and Seedless Preserves distress ink.
To create a soft and pastel Valentine tag I combined crackle paste and Cranberry Wine paint to use with the Complicated Hearts tag. It ended up being the perfect shade to match the distress ink.
So using one stencil for Valentine’s can give you two completely different tags. Either one of these would make a perfect gift tag.
Blessings,
