Fly Away Art Journal Page

Hello friends, this is Carmen with you again and today I’m sharing with you a tutorial on how to use a journal page that has some old or extra paint on it.   When ever I’m creating it’s common to have extra paint or ink on stencils that I don’t want to waste so I will apply it to a blank journal page, with plans to use it later.  This Fly Away art journal page was created from one of those pages.

Here’s what I used…

This is the page I started with.  It’s from a previous project and the Square Scrolls stencil that had left over paint from the Media Line mister in Turquoise.  I loved the pattern and I knew I wanted to create something using it.

I first added a wash of Whispering Turquoise on the entire page to tone down the background. The Rock Wall stencil is perfect for creating ground layers.  Here I used it with the Terra Cotta acrylic paint.

The Raven Mosaic stencil has a variety of patterns that can be used as a sun or background details.  One of my favorite yellow’s is Saffron Yellow and it’s perfect for this sun.  Raw Umber and Terra Cotta were used to create the background pattern and hand draw the tree.

The 6″ x 6″ Fly Away stencil has a perfect little bird for this tree.  I started it with the Graphite paint and the words with a mix of Terra Cotta and Saffron Yellow.

I finished up the details on the bird with some more paint and some outlining with my favorite Fude Ball pen.

I stamped a butterfly for one more little detail.

So, the next time you have a page with some left over paint, think about what you can create with it by adding some layers of paint and stencils.

I hope you enjoyed this quick tutorial and make sure and come back for more inspiration!
