Mail Art and Stenciling

ShannaTCWJanuaryProject1-9

Hello all you amazing crafter’s out there? Have you been watching for the new stencils coming out?

I decided to work on some mail art this year and I decided to play around with some of my favorite stencils while I created.

Let me know what you think.

First I gathered my supplies, some paints, stencils, brush, make up sponge, etc.

Next up I painted the base color of my envelope. I didn’t bother to gesso it first but you can always gesso it first.

Next I grabbed more colors and my stencil TCW547 – and went to town with two blue colors and my makeup sponge.

Here is the final look when I am done. Let it dry in between applications too.

Next I went in with the stencil TCW553 – and went in with some black acrylic paint. I used a different make up sponge as I rinse them after I use them so they need to dry.

Doesn’t that black just pop off the colors!

I decided to through in some white using a Sharpie Paint Pen and then a white gel pen for the smaller pieces. I didn’t do the whole stencil as I still wanted some black to really pop out. I also used my finger to add some circles and the used a brush to ad a black outline. Once the paint was dry I used a white gelato just to add some high light and then went in on to p of that with the white Sharpie.

Lastly, I used the stencil TCW508 to trace and cut out an area for you to write a mailing address! What do you think?

I used a PITT Pen to outline the mailing label and glued it down to the card.

Here is a close up of the white highlighting. I like a “sloppy” look as I don’t believe mixed media is meant to look perfect. It was so much fun not thinking about it either. Just put paint to paper and have fun.
