Travel Journal & Stenciled Gift Bag

Hello there crafty friends!  I am excited to share this little project that would make an easy gift or craft to replicate!TCW_Travel Journal_Oct 2015 (22)

I bought several of these little composition notebooks to cover and make into tiny travel journals or notebooks.TCW_Travel Journal_Oct 2015

I chose the three stencils below; inspired by the plane, post card and date going perfectly with a travel journal!

Postcard     TCW2068_2015 SF Airplane 01A

I measured out some heavy watercolor paper to the combined length of the front, back and spine of the book.  After marking it, I scored along those lines and left a little extra in case I measured incorrectly.TCW_Travel Journal_Oct 2015 (12)

I used three different Distress Inks and misted it with water.  I drug the card through the ink a couple times and left it to dry.TCW_Travel Journal_Oct 2015 (13)

After the paint was completely dry, I used this gold embossing paste over the plane stencil.  The gold added some texture and obviously, the image of the plane, but is subtle enough to blend with the yellow nicely.TCW_Travel Journal_Oct 2015 (14)

Again, waiting for the paste to dry completely, I used a finger dauber and some more Distress Ink to stencil the year across the bottom front cover.  I also added the months across the bottom of the back cover.TCW_Travel Journal_Oct 2015 (15)

While the cover piece dried, I moved on to the packaging!  A small canvas bag that was the perfect size received a misting of a couple different peach tones.  I wanted the words ‘post card’ to be visible and chose the colors to complement the book and the change in season!TCW_Travel Journal_Oct 2015 (8)

I added some ink around the outside edges of the cover piece and used spray adhesive to glue it firmly to the book itself.  Finally, I added a couple pieces of fabric tape along the binding to add a little pattern and tie in the dark green color.TCW_Travel Journal_Oct 2015 (29)

I made a flower embellishment for the front using scraps of gold foil kraft paper, left over raffia ribbon and gold thread.TCW_Travel Journal_Oct 2015 (22)TCW_Travel Journal_Oct 2015 (32)
