El Dia Del Los Muertos (Day of the Dead) Sugar Skull

Hello All!

Design Team Member, Keri Sallee, here!

Today, I am so excited to share with you my newest project for The Crafter’s Workshop!

Recently, I have become OBSESSED with a show on Spike TV called Ink Masters, where fellow tattoo artist battle it out to win $100,000. One of my favorite episodes is when they all had to tattoo Sugar Skulls.

If you’re not familiar with what a Sugar Skull is…it is a decorative skull that is used in a Spanish day of remembrance called El Dia Del Los Muertos or The Day of the Dead. It is a time for the people of the Spanish culture to remember those who have passed on.

Sugar Skulls are known for their symmetry  and ornate designs.

Here is my take on a Sugar Skull:

For this project, I used 3 stencils:

FullSizeRender

I used both the 12×12 and the 6×6 of “Daisy Buzz” and “Elegant Motif.”

I also used the Spiderweb Fragment:

Ronda Palazzari Spiderweb SF

I made this video tutorial to take you step by step through the process!

Here are a few closeups:

I hope you enjoyed today’s project and it inspires you to try something new!!!

XOXO,

  1. What fun. Amazing transformation from the stencils used to this wonderful happy Sugar Skull. This inspired me to create a new Pinterest Board. LOL
