Truth Cards inspired by Melody Ross

Hello All!

Design Team Member Keri Sallee here!

I LOVE artists who use their creatives talents to change the world and one of my favorite inspirational artists is Melody Ross, the founder of Brave Girls Club.

One of her most powerful creations is Truth Cards. In her own words, Truth Cards are:

The idea for Truth Cards came as a way to overpower the awful script that sometimes runs in our head, preventing our souls from feeling whole or healed. Truth cards are little messages of love and truth that are written directly to our souls….telling us the TRUTH when we are believing words that are keeping us from believing the love and truth.

I have always LOVED the idea of these beautiful little nuggets of truth and decided to finally try making them myself.

Here is the full book of Truth Cards I made.

Today…I want to show you how I made 2 of them.

To start with I used Heidi Swapp’s “Favorite Things” collection for Michael’s and 5×4 cards cut from chipboard.

I used the 3 brand NEW TCW Stencils for this project:

TCW557S “Mini Lace”

TCW 589 Butterflight

TCW2093 “Sequin Waste Bit”

SequinWasteBit

After I used my Liquitex Matte Gel Medium to adhere my patterned paper to my chipboard, I used a makeup wedge with Adirondack Inks in Watermelon and Wild Plum through my Sequin Waste Bit Stencil. I also used the Watermelon around the edges to make it pop.

The bright pink and purple along with the colorful chevron add a FUN ’80s feel.

Next, I added some film strip washi tape:

After adding my words, I wanted to add a little darker image, so I used my Butterflight stencil and my Archival Ink in Jet Black to add some graphic butterflies around my words.

Here is the finished product!

I chose to use a scripture from the Bible, but you can use ANYTHING that speaks to you…song lyrics, book quotes…whatever hold TRUTH to you!

Here’s another super simple Truth Card.

Start with a pretty patterned paper and Matte Gel it to a chipboard piece.

Using the Mini Lace Stencil and Adirondack Inks with makeup wedges, add a couple colors to your card background. With the size of these cards, I was just trying to add texture and color to my background, not necessarily show the exact image.

Here is the finished Truth Card:

I hope today inspired you to find some TRUTH in your life and document it.

  1. Thanks for sharing. I admire Melody Ross and have always loved her life story. This is such a fun project. I have something similar that I made a few years ago when the little Library drawers came out and I designed little cards with my favorite sayings, songs etc. Yours are beautiful. I love the Lace stencil…I think I best order it. Thank you for the inspiration.
