My Challenge with the Flow Chart Stencil with Karenliz

Hi Everyone.
There were two woman looking at TCW stencils and talking with each saying they could never to anything with a particular stencil. Of course, “never” was my signal to jump in the conversation. I gave them lots of ideas to use the stencil, cards, scrapbook pages, art journals, tags, home décor, using bits and pieces of the design, etc. The one thing I did say was they can create a great background with the stencil. They looked at me like I had 10 heads.

This is the stencil they were looking at the Flow Chart stencil. I tried to explain how they can create great layers with this stencil but they kept saying they couldn’t see it.

You have to look outside the box when playing with your stencils. Just because it looks like a Flow Chart doesn’t mean you can’t use it for other things.

Yes, you can use any stencil to create a background even the Flow Chart stencil and I’m going to show you how.

With a blank journal page its best to start by adding a background color. I added a couple of colors and used a credit card to spread it around. These are my favorite colors at this moment, white, orange, pink, red and yellow (Liquitex Basics Acrylic Paints). You can use your favorite colors for this project.

I continued to add paint to the page. I also used the credit card to add marks to the page to add some texture. I’m going to use the same basic technique I showed on my post about layers – click HERE.

Then I took the stencil and started to add shapes to the page. There is no rhyme or reason on how I decided where to place them. Just go for it.

I continued using white paint though the stencil.

Here is a tip in creating great layers that I use especially with a stencil like this one. Since its not a background stencil with a repeating pattern, as you add color to each layer count how many shapes you added with that color. In the picture above there are about 10 to 12 shapes (not including the arrows of dots) in white and my next color I will add 10 to 12 shapes of that color.

In the next picture you can see all the colors I added to the background using the tip above.

To finish the background, I added more and more layers and the word “create” on the stencil in black and white. Here is a close up of all the layers?

How many layers do you see?

There are 10 layers on this page. I use this layered technique for many of my art projects.  Isn’t it cool looking? You have to try it.

Thanks so much for stopping by!
