Colorful stenciling with a black background

Hi, everyone! Consie here again to share a colorful art journal page inspired by Julie Fei-Fan Balzer’s work!

Colorful stenciling against a black background • Consie Sindet for The Crafter's Workshop #artjournaling #stencils #mixedmediaI started off with a page in my Canson mixed media sketchbook that I had added leftover acrylic paint to with an old key card. I gathered a few stencils (TCW527: Word Association, TCW519S: Mini Hummingbirds, TCW528S: Mini Daily Buzz, TCW548S: Mini Herbarium), a pencil, a Sharpie pen, a black Pitt Big Brush marker and a Signo Uni-Ball white gel pen and had some fun playing!

I mixed and matched up letters as I needed to create all the words except Time and hand drew the number one.

I then outlined all of the designs with a Sharpie pen to make it easier to see the patterns.

I love how stunning the background colors are against all that black! It really makes the design pop and leaves me with a great reminder to slow down and take One Day At A Time.

Thanks for joining me today!

  1. I have had lots of trouble finding a good white gel pen that won’t clog up or dry up quickly. Do you recommend the Signo Uni-Ball white gel pen that you used on this beautiful journal page? I tried a liquitex white paint marker but I couldn’t quite get the fine line I wanted. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    1. Hi Patti! Sorry I took so long to respond! I do highly recommend the Signo pen. I love the coverage. I don’t find it clogging or drying up but I do go through them quickly so I’d recommend buying a couple at a time. Hope that helps!
