Memorial Day Art Journal Page

Hi Friends!  Carmen Whitehead here with my first post for The Crafter’s Workshop 2015 Design Team!  I have a simple art journal page for you today, but this technique can be used to create a canvas, wood pallet canvas, or even a card.

We have so much to be grateful for in this country.  I am a naturalized citizen of the United States, I was born in Cuba, but chose to become a US citizen.  Coming from a Communist country I have a great appreciation for the freedoms we have here and I’m so thankful for the men and women that have served our country to give us those freedoms.

This sentiment on this art journal page is one of my favorite.  It absolutely takes bravery to join the military and put your life at risk to protect our country and the freedoms that we enjoy.

I started the page with some gesso, then scraped on with a plastic card some DecoArt Americana acrylics in red, white and blue to create the shape of the US flag.  I used The Crafter’s Workshop stencils  TCW512 and TCW547 for the adding detail to the stripes and  Balzer Bits Star TCW2055.  The sentiment was written with Faber-Castell Big Brush Pen in black, and the smaller stars with my new favorite white maker, Molotow paint marker

So, this Memorial Day take a small break from the barbeque and festivities and say a special thank you to the men and women that have given us this sacrifice.

Make sure you check back often to The Crafter’s Workshop site for more inspiration and projects!

Thanks so much for visiting!

Blessings,
