Chalkboard Art fun

How about a little chalkboard art fun?

I started with a small piece of wood from my local craft store that I painted with a layer of gesso. The gesso serves a primer for the chalkboard paint.

Then I painted 2 coats of chalkboard paint, allowing an hour between coats. There are many different colours of chalkboard paint to choose from but I love this shade of blue from Martha Stewart Crafts.

Condition the board by lighting rubbing some chalk over the surface.

I didn’t have any coloured chalk so I used Faber Castell Pitt Pastels with The Crafter’s Workshop Life StripsTCW316.

If you are happy with your design, you can spray a fixative to keep the main design intact and just use the remainder of your chalkboard for your messages. I think it’s a fun project to do for your desk. What do you think?
