Backgrounds Subtle and Not So Subtle

Hello there!

It’s Thursday so I thought I’d share a t.b.t (throw back Thursday) page. Well I’m not throwing too far back or anything but a photo approaching 15 years is good enough 🙂

This is me and my husband before marriage, before kids, just boyfriend and girlfriend (ah simpler times!) taken on a trip to Brisbane.

I made the background with several different TCW stencils and some Dylusions Ink, Glimmer Mist and gesso. The stencils are so versatile and depending on how you use the different mediums, you can get really subtle or not so subtle effects. First, I sprayed all over the cardstock and let the ink dry.

Next, with TCW437 Texturized and TCW454 Speciman, I placed the stencils over the colored areas, spritzed with water and blotted the water off through the stencil. This creates subtle outlines of the stencil where the water lifts off the ink.

Then I used super heavy gesso with TCW486 Labyrinth to create some more pop to the background. From there I added some washi tape, wood veneer embellishments and title.
