HELLO! Welcome to another day in our week long fun with TCW stencils and Viva Las VegaStamps! I can’t say enough about these two great companies!

My project today started out with a vintage cigar box I purchased for $1

When it’s finished, it will house coffee & tea- a lovely gift for someone special:)

I began by pasting torn book pages to the lid with matte medium.

Next, I added this great Coffee Ad…then I was ready to have fun with the details using TCW Stencils and VivaLasVegaStamps!

I used Heavy Gesso to stencil with TCW479 Random Stars.

I LOVE this stencil, and am already thinking of some great Christmas projects using it!

For the gift tag, I used this great Tag stamp from VivaLasVegaStamps.

For even more detail, I used the VLVS “MAXWELL HOUSE” coffee stamp along with the Filagree stamp above it and the chicken wire stamp top right and bottom right corners.

I love the Arrow stamp from VLVS you can see on the tag above.

TCW/VLV -Sue CarrollI used a Brown Pan Pastel to add aging to the stars, but you could also use distress ink.

The “rusty” areas were done by stamping with embossing ink then dusting with rusting powder, which has become difficult to find. Here are 2 links I found that carry it

I’m going to give this box of coffee and tea to a friend who is in need of a coffee/tea break and some quiet time!

  1. Brings back fond memories of the cigar boxes my dad would have. My mom was always repurposing them for holding her crafty items (beads, wire, etc.). I love how yours turned out. I’m sure it will be well appreciated by your friend.

    1. Thanks you Janine! I share your sentiments about your Dad:) I LOVE that your reading this post brought you back to a sweet memory. Thank you for your kind words!!!!

    1. Dawn, rusting powder has become a little tricky to find, but it is one of my favorite products! I shared a few links if you’re interested:) Thank you for taking the time to write such kind words:)

    1. Thank you Debbie! It’s hard not to be inspired when provided with such great products!! You are so thoughtful to write…I was so tickled, because I think the tag was one of my favorite elements. You made my day!

      1. I’m glad I made you smile! I had wanted to write more about the tag but couldn’t find the rightr words to say (I’m Dutch, English is not my first language). The tag has a lot of emotion, caring for the receiver in it. The word breathe and the heart, how they are calm because of the white. How they stand out, are like a strong shoulder which offers comfort. It resonated with me I guess. (Maybe because I’m in 5th gear all the time lately too?). It’s a small addition, but the value is in the small things.

  2. The box looks great. I have some old cigar boxes that could use a new look. Thanks for the inspiration.

  3. Totally fabulous and super inspiring! I will definitely be on the look out for old cigar boxes now! This is such a great gift idea! Love it!!!
