As far as backgrounds go this project could not be simpler.  I recently bought a set of 4 little 6×6 canvases.  I have drawn a series of faces on each and plan to complete them in a similar manner to this one I am sharing today.

I added acrylic paint to the face and began working on the skin and facial features, using a mix of Prisma pencils, Paint, white paint pen and Inktense Pencils.  I kept working on it until I was satisfied.  Next I added a layer of Ranger Dauber paint to the hair and to the edge in blue and green.  Using Inktense pencils I added shading and moved it about with a baby wipe.  The first stencil I used was this TCW428. Beacuse the canvas is small I used all the 6×6  mini versions.

I used a palette knife and some heavy gel medium through the stencil, leaving a raised embossed image.  Once that was dry I added layers of paint, Inktense pencils, and Distress Inks, to grunge it up a little.

Next I used this stencil – TCW462 Stained Glass

I sprayed some Heidi Ho Blue Coloringz (Shimmerz Paint) through the stencil leaving a lighter image unsprayed.  I moved it around while inking, to get it to follow the contour of the face and hair.  It is in the background and can only just be seen, but I love the pattern it created.

Next I got this stencil TCW454 specimen

I used black distress ink through this one and got a faded image of the butterflies and circular elements on my canvas.

I wanted her hair to look dimensional and have some depth so I kept going with the simple layers of stencils and Distress inks.

The last stencil  TCW349 Eye chart

I needed it a little more grungy, so I kept going until I got to this point.  It was all really simple, and relatively quick!

Now I just have 3 more to go!
