Friendship Journal by Karen

Hi there,

This is my first post as a TCW designer and I couldn’t be more excited. I am sharing a sweet little Friendship Journal that I created using the Chicken Wire (TCW 239s) stencil.

I love this particular stencil because it’s great for many themes and projects. It continues to be a staple on my craft desk.

I stretched the use of the stencil by using it in two different ways.  I started this project with a tag that I stamped and embossed with white embossing powder. I colored the flower with copic markers. Note: I created the mask shown in the photo previously to use time and time again for projects like this. It’s also stored with the coordinating stamp for easy accessibility.

To create the chicken wire background around my flower without disturbing the image, I covered the embossed flower with a mask that I cut out of the image and airbrushed color onto the tag around the flower.

Next, I wanted to extend the use of my chicken wire stencil, so I dragged my stencil through some white paint and randomly stamped directly onto the tag with my stencil to add more dimension.

Finally, I decided to trim the tag down to make it the focal image of a journal that I created with my Cinch binding tool. I continued embellishing the journal until I was pleased with the final result. The journal measures 4 ¼ x 5. I love how creating a background and stamping with the chicken wire stencil enhanced the overall design.
