DIY Christmas Decor – A Snowman Canvas

Hi Everyone! It’s Linday, from Crafting While Caffeinated Blog & YouTube Channel, here with you today sharing another video tutorial! I LOVE this time of year and getting ready for the holidays, especially pulling out all of the Christmas decorations! Today I want to share a fun and easy DIY Christmas Decor Canvas that I made. You can watch the entire process down below!

For all the instruction on making this DIY Christmas Canvas, be sure to watch the full video tutorial above! But I do have a few tips and tricks to share with you to make this project even easier! First, prep your surface! I used The Crafter’s Workshop’s White Gesso to prep my 8×10 cavas. You don’t need much just a thin, even layer will do the trick! I like to apply mine with a foam brush.

DIY Christmas Decor Canvas - Mr. Snowman Stencil

The paint I am using is The Crafter’s Workshop Heavy Body Acrylic Paint. These paints work great on canvas and are very thick and pigmented. This allows me to apply just one layer of color instead of multiple layers! They also hold their shape well and aren’t runny, so they work so well with stencils! To apply the paints I used make up sponges. I like to use these because they’re cheap and can be cut up into very small pieces to get into all the little nooks and corners of the stencil. Also, any mistakes made with the paint (smudges, leaking under the edge of the stencil, etc.) can easily be cleaned up when the paint is dry! I just like to add a layer of white gesso or paint over the top to fix those mistakes!

Because the canvas is white and I used a bright white gesso on it, I knew that any white color I added to create the snow on the stencil really wasn’t going to show up. I decided to go ahead with the Light and Fluffy Modeling Paste from The Crafter’s Workshop to add some dimension, but I still needed something to make it stand out from the white background. That led me to add a little Shimmery Goodness. This stuff is AMAZING!! You can add it to mediums, pastes, paints, really any medium and it gives the most gorgeous shimmery finish! Just by adding a dollop of the Shimmery Goodness to the Light and Fluffy Modeling paste, it allows the snow areas to really pop away from that stark white background!

This was such a fun and easy decor project for this Christmas and would make a great gift! I hope you all enjoyed the video tutorial and if you are interested in any of The Crafter’s Workshop supplies I used today to make this DIY Christmas Decor Canvas, you will find them all linked down below! Happy Crafting!!
