Sympathy Cards

How the create classy sympathy cards using stencils

Hi everyone, Heidi here, today I would like to show you a set of sympathy cards. They are not the most joyful cards, but they often mean a lot to the recipients! I wanted to keep them clean and simple (CAS) but with the use of the The Crafter’s Workshop Metallic Modeling Paste I created the elegance I was looking for. Let’s get started!

The Crafter’s Workshop provided me with some product to create this project. The opinions I share are solely my own.

Card 1:

Step 1:

I die cut a rectangle panel from some black textured card stock, leaving enough room to create a slightly larger mat for this panel later on, and still fit on my card base. I used textured black paper but if you prefer a slightly cleaner look then you can also choose a smoother paper, but I felt the texture of the paper added to the overall look of my project!

Next I adhered this black panel to my work surface using removable tape and then adhered a The Crafter’s Workshop stencil called “Leaf Collection“ (TCW808 large) on top so that the the top left leaf of the stencil is in the middle of the black panel. Now I’m going to apply some The Crafter’s Workshop  “White Pearl Modeling Paste“ (TCW9030) over the leaf using a palette knife and I make sure that the paste is on not too thin, because otherwise the black paper will show through once the paste has dried. Then I set the panel aside to dry!

The Crafter’s Workshop Metallic Modeling Pastes have an awesome shine to them which shows beautifully on black card stock.

Step 2:

While the panel is drying I work on the rest of my card design. I die cut a slightly larger rectangle panel from some greyed yellow card stock which I adhered to the black panel once the modeling paste is dry (using liquid glue). I also free hand cut a strip of vellum 1,5 centimetres wide and stamped my sentiment on there using Versafine “Onyx Black“ ink and using one of the sentiments from the Clearly Besotted “Sweet Little Sentiments“ stamp set which I clear heat embossed afterwards because the ink will not dry on the vellum otherwise.

Step 3:

This strip of vellum I wrapped around the combined card panels and adhered on the back using regular tape. And now all I have to do to finish my card is to adhere the combined panels with the vellum sentiment to my crème coloured card base using one millimetre thick foam tape.

Step 1:

To create a different design on my second card I used the same “Leaf Collection“ stencil but in the smaller size. I die cut a rectangle black panel again and applied The Crafter’s Workshop “Platinum Modeling Paste“ (TCW9031) over the same single leaf design using a palette knife. After this had dried I created a second leaf in the same way next to the first one.

Step 2:

When the modeling paste had dried I stamped one of the sentiments from the Whimsy Stamps  “Friendly Flowers“ stamp set on the right hand side of the black panel using VersaMark ink and I heat embossed with Altenew “Antique Silver“ embossing powder.

I also created a slightly larger rectangle panel from some shiny silver card stock and adhered both panels together using liquid glue.

Step 3:

To finish my second card I now only have to adhere these combined panels to my white card base using one millimetre thick foam tape.

Card 3:

For my third card I used the same techniques as on my second card but changed the colours: I choose The Crafter’s Workshop “Copper Penny Modeling Paste“ (TCW9029) and WOW “Metallic Copper Regular“ embossing powder. For this card I also choose a black card base to work with.

And that’s it for today’s sympathy cards project!

I wish you a creative day!
