Live in Colour

hello everyone!

today I am sharing with you a quick project I created to try and express some of the feelings the month of May had given me.

the area I lived in had a major flood this spring and it was truly overwhelming. my beautiful little studio went from being a safe haven for me and many to being torn out and left bare .  it was a terrible experience that I wouldn’t wish on anyone to any degree.

I want to thank my fellow teamies who chipped in and covered my dates this month to allow me to gather myself and get creating again.

for my project I started out by covering an old canvas with a layer of gesso.

once that was dry I applied some light and fluffy texture paste through the stencil and using a stamp i added some texture before removing the stencil and setting it all aside to dry.

in the meantime I covered a chipboard dragonfly with some gesso.

as it was drying i came upon what my colour inspiration was going to be…. a pool testing strip!!

so once it was dry i added some inks to a dragonfly by dropping ink onto my glass mat and dipping and drying until I was happy with the colours.

now that the paste on the canvas was dry I started by dropping inks and spritzing with water, allowing one layer to dry before moving on to the other.   a little time consuming but so worth it I think! but i must admit as you can see in the picture below the colours blending i didn’t always wait as long as i should!!

and then it was just a matter of assembling the whole thing and attaching a saying

I absolutely love working with stencils and modeling paste. it is so fun watching inks run along the designs and watching the whiteness come to life with colour

it is kind of like life right…. sometimes you need to move your mind from whiteness to colour to brighten your days

Remember, we would love to see what you create with The Crafters Workshop Stencils and Mediums.
