Play Freely

Hi Everybody! As a TCW Brand Ambassador, I am so honored to be here on The Crafter’s Workshop blog to share this little tutorial with you.

With the weather getting warmer, sometimes I just want to be outside. But I am torn ’cause I also want to play. I do not want to have to carry everything outside to create for a couple of hours, so I limit myself with the number of supplies I take. On this day I chose three colors of paint plus black and white; and some modeling paste just in case. I also took outside with me one stencil from each designer in the Winter 2018 line. That was an extra challenge I set for myself as well. I had to use all the stencils on one page.

To start out I just randomly applied some patches of paint on my page also wanting to leave some white space.

I choose my first stencil, TCW775 Scalloped Mandala by Rebekah Meier and apply some paint through the stencil with a wedge sponge. I also paint another layer around that doily with Art by Marlene’s stencil TCW782 Floral Eclipse.

Next I use TCW787 Architexture by Gabrielle Pollacco with some black paint. I tend to apply in sections of three. Sometimes more, but usually odd numbers.

Anybody who knows me, knows I am not happy until I get my fingers into the paint. So next I took some white paint with my finger and just smudge it around the page to soften up some areas. I then added more white paint and three stencils; one by Julie Fei Fan Blazer TCW755 Modern Lace, another by Jamie Echt TCW792 Micro Dots and one more by Carmen Medlin TCW785 Ornate Borders.

All that’s left to do now is a little doodling around some of the stencils with a black pen and write some thoughts down on the page. That is it! So quick and easy even though I had no plan; and so calming because I already had my limited art supplies chosen before I sat down.

Thank you so much for taking the time to check out my blog post. I do hope you enjoyed it and try limiting your supplies and see what you create!

Till next time, play and have fun!
