be the energy…Art Journal May 2018

Hey there artsy friends & crafters!  This is Jenni, here today to wish you a happy Monday and to share my latest Art Journal spread I created for The Crafter’s Workshop.

Below are the stencils, mediums and paints I used in my project!

The Crafter’s Workshop provided me with some product to create this project.  The opinions I share are solely my own.

Without too much of a plan, I had a color palette in mind and knew I wanted to create something with lots of contrast and a pop of gold or metallics.  Below are some of the items I pulled to use.

I started by misting several different Color Shine mists onto my journal that I pre-prepped by taping the spine and applying The Crafter’s Workshop White Gesso.

While the mist is drying, I used several of the Heavy Body Acrylic paints to mix a peach, coral color.

Using a stiff stencil brush, I added the mixed paint to parts of the large 12×12 stencil.

Onto the right page, I added more of the peachy, pink mixed paint onto another similar stencil over the dried mist.

After the stenciled portion of the page dried, I added some white Heavy Body Acrylic to different portions of the stencil that highlighted parts of the design.  Next, I brought out the watercolors to add a wash of complimentary colors to the parts of the background I planned to stencil.

I used this large mixed floral collage stencil to cover parts of the journal pages that worked with the background paints.

The Black Modeling Paste has such an amazing texture that provides great coverage while getting under the tiny delicate parts of the stencil.  For a large, detailed stencil like this one, it’s key!

After adding several more pieces of that same floral stencil, I used the Heavy Body Acrylic to paint white blocks where I planned to add my journaling quote.  I also added this sitting moth, from the large 12×12 stencil, in the Champagne Gold Modeling Paste.

Finally, I added a lot of details using various white pens, Faber-Castell markers and my quote.

I could have kept adding more detail for hours, it is so therapeutic and adds so much interest to the page.
